There are new details from officials about the death of a 2-year-old girl at Orland Square Mall in Chicago, Illinois.
Alexandra Martinez was injured in the mall’s Akira clothing store. She was with her grandmother, aunt, and four other related children. The children were playing in and around the store when the incident occurred.

A doctor and a nurse were shopping in the mall. They rushed over to the child before the paramedics arrived at the scene. Alexandra was taken to the Advocate Christ Hospital with severe head injuries. She later died from those injuries.
The Chicago-based Akira store reported that it is “devastated by this tragic event.” The clothing side of the store is open Wednesday, however, the shoe side of the store, where the accident occurred will remain closed pending further investigation. McCarthy said he is not aware of any code violations.
The mall also offered its deepest condolences.
