The LGBT community celebrates Pride in the month of June. To mark the occasion, the transportation network Lyft announced the will now let drivers and passengers specify which pronoun they would like to be addressed as.
The Lyft app now permits drivers and passengers state in the setting of their profile which pronoun they would like to be addressed as. They can select “Hers/Her/She,” “His/Him/He,” “Theirs/Them/They,” “Pronoun is not listed,” or “Prefer not to answer.”
The new option is part of Lyft’s campaign #TwoIsTooFew. The purpose is to highlight and represent the identities of genderqueer, non-binary, and genderfluid individuals.
As part of Lyft’s publication highlighting Pride, they said:
The app for Lyft will now offer the consumer a wide range of pronouns, which is optional, to demonstrate the companies support for the non-binary and transgender riders.
The special Pride publication also said Lyft would give resources and help drivers who are in the process of transitioning.
Lyft said they would “help the drivers in the company change on the driver’s license their gender identity and name.”
Lyft stated they were working closely with the National Center for Transgender Equality.
The transportation company has also been a supporter of various pride activities across the United States.
