On Friday, March 15, 2019, North Haven police were continuing to investigate the death of a woman who was struck by a passing red Ford on Ridge Road.
The woman, Maureen Munzner, age 57, was walking with her two children when she was fatally struck by the passing vehicle at 5:30 p.m. ET.
When police officers arrived, they discovered the vehicle had fled the scene traveling north on Ridge Road. Witnesses attempted to chase the vehicle.
Not long after the deadly hit-and-run, a man called 911 to report hitting a deer with a 2008 Ford Fusion in the area of Mount Carmel Avenue, near Ridge Road.
According to police, the man’s vehicle had sustained heavy front-end damage and the windshield was smashed. The man was not publicly identified, but North Haven police said he did not deliver consistent stories regarding his travel pattern.
Since the hit-and-run on Monday, detectives obtained warrants to search the driver’s cellphone records and to process his vehicle for any evidence including DNA, according to officials. North Haven police are working closely with the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s Office, the office of the chief medical examiner, and the forensic laboratory.
The investigation was being headed up by the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit.
“The deceased victim and her family are owed an appropriate investigation, and our efforts will result in determining all of the facts associated with this tragedy,” North Haven police released in a statement.
